One of the most frustrating problems to face with growing a small brand is being unable to update and control your own website. You know you need a professional and up to date web presence, a mobile site, social networking, and all of the technology that goes in to web communication.

Salon Lucien in Dallas faced this challenge in 2011, and so they contacted 4th Pixel to help them update their website.  Their site was well designed, and exactly what they wanted, but was build with manually coded HTML and difficult to update without the very technical knowledge a web designer has, but most small business owners don't have time to contend with.

Our solution was to take the existing design and content of the website, and copy it over on to a Content Management System (CMS, or in this case Joomla,) which allows even a non-expert to be able to update the website without disrupting it's professional look. An open-source CMS like Wordpress or Joomla may not be the best solution for a large company that needs a custom web portal, but for a small brand they provide a cost-effective, versatile and up-to date infractructure for a web site.

Most people never even noticed that the site had changed at all. It looked the same, the navigation was the same, and the content was identical.  But the CMS allows the owners of the site to change the content and even the layout without knowledge of HTML.  Now, anyone who is familiar with a word processor (like Microsoft Word) can update the website. In the case of salonlucien.com, it also allowed us to add functionality and interactivity to the site, including a blog and email marketing features.
